Arsenal reach agreement to sign Alberto Moleiro

By on December 19, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly ‘closed’ a deal to sign Las Palmas star Alberto Moleiro, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Gunners have had an inconsistent first half of this season and are currently third in the Premier League table with 30 points from 16 games, sitting six points behind the league leaders Liverpool.

In the last nine league games, Mikel Arteta’s side have dropped 14 points and if they can’t improve quickly, they would have to end the campaign without lifting the title once again.

Therefore, it seems the North London club are planning to reinforce the squad in January to push for the title in the second half of this season.

Fichajes claim that Arsenal have identified Moleiro as a serious option to bolster the midfield department and have already ‘closed’ a deal to secure his service.

Arteta believes the Spaniard is an ideal candidate to support Martin Odegaard so Arsenal have decided to trigger his £50m release clause with the official announcement of this move expected to come over the coming months.

Moleiro to Arsenal

The 21-year-old usually plays on the left side of the attack but is also comfortable in the attacking midfield position. He has scored four goals in La Liga thus far this season and one of those goals came against Real Madrid earlier this season.

Moleiro is a technically gifted player and is highly talented. So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future.

However, Arsenal already have Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard can also provide cover in the number ten if needed so they already have enough options for this position.

The Gunners need a new prolific goal-scorer and they could do with signing a new left-winger as well. Therefore, the  Emirates club would have been better off saving the £50m to strengthen these two positions first before looking at strengthening the other areas of the squad.

Moleiro can play in the left-wing role but he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level consistently enough to suggest that he is ready to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions.
