Arsenal plot raid on signing Crystal Palace’s Mitchell
Arsenal are reportedly planning on signing Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell, as per Spanish outlet Sport.
After joining the Eagles back in 2016, the 25-year-old made his senior debut back in 2020 before establishing himself as a key player for the South London club.
In 37 Premier League appearances last term, the defender made five goal contributions and kept 10 clean-sheets. Moreover, he helped his side finish in mid-table. The defender has registered three assists in 17 league appearances thus far this season and has kept three clean-sheets.
However, he has entered the final few months of his current contract so his future at Selhurst Park is currently hanging in the balance. While citing and translating the print version of Sport, Sport Witness report that Arsenal are keen on signing him by taking advantage of his current situation.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in him as Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are also planning to make a move.
Mitchell to Arsenal
Mitchell is a left-back by traits but has been playing in the left-wing-back role under Oliver Glasner in recent times.
On paper, Arsenal are well-resourced in their left-back position after signing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna last summer as they currently have Oleksandr Zinchenko, Myles Lewis-Skelly along with the Italian at their disposal for this role. Moreover, Jurrien Timber can play in this position seamlessly if needed.
However, Calafiori has had injury problems in recent weeks, while Zinchenko has also had fitness issues in recent years. Lewis-Skelly has just turned 18 and doesn’t have much experience playing at the highest level.
Mitchell is a Premier League proven player and could be a useful acquisition for Arsenal if they can hire him for free. But, there is a question mark whether he possesses the necessary qualities to help Mikel Arteta’s side achieve their lofty ambitions.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a move to sign the Crystal Palace star to bolster the defensive department in January or next summer.
Arsenal have had an inconsistent first half of this season so they may look to sign a few new faces in the winter window to help Arteta mount a title charge in the second half of this campaign.
