Viktor Gyokeres Sporting Lisbon

Arsenal are reportedly ready to spend big to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, as per the French outlet L’Equipe.

The 26-year-old has been attracting a lot of attention after displaying impressive performances for club and country in recent times.

He scored 43 goals and registered 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions for the Lions last term. Moreover, he guided his team to win the Liga Portugal title.

The forward was heavily linked with a move away from Jose Alvalade Stadium last summer and the Gunners were reportedly interested in signing him. But, they didn’t make a concrete approach to sign him and in the end, Sporting managed to keep hold of him.

Now, he has had a stellar first half of this season, scoring 32 goals and notching up six assists in 30 appearances in all competitions. Moreover, the Swedish international has made 13 goal contributions in six games in the Nations League for his country this term.

Gyokeres to Arsenal

L’Equipe state that Arsenal want to sign a new striker following Gabriel Jesus’ season-ending knee injury and have identified Alexander Isak and Jonathan David as key targets.

However, Newcastle United or LOSC Lille don’t want to let their star players leave the club in mid-season so Arsenal could consider making a move to sign Gyokeres.

The player has a £84m release clause in his current contract and Mikel Arteta’s side would be ready to secure his service by triggering his release clause.

Arsenal have had an inconsistent first half of this season and it has widely been suggested that they need a new prolific goal-scorer to take the next step and finally win the Premier League title.

Gyokeres is quick, strong, good in the air, efficient in finishing off his chances, can create opportunities for fellow attackers and also works hard without possession.

The forward possesses the necessary qualities to flourish in the Premier League so he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they secure his service.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window to reinforce the frontline.
