Arsenal are reportedly in discussions to secure the services of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, according to Football insider.

The 26-year-old Nigerian international, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been at the center of transfer controversies. Osimhen was linked with several clubs during the summer transfer window and faced issues with his parent club Napoli before his temporary move to the Turkish giants.

The Gunners recently saw their Premier League title ambitions take a hit after a disappointing 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta’s side initially surged ahead with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, giving them a 2-0 lead. However, strikes from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins ensured Villa snatched a point at the Emirates, leaving Arsenal six points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

 Victor Osimhen to Arsenal?

With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus out with long term injuries, Arsenal currently have Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Raheem Sterling as their attacking options. However, inconsistency has plagued their forward line this season and Arteta has admitted he needs to strengthen before the window closes to aid their title push.

As per Football Insider, the North London club has made initial contact with Napoli regarding Osimhen, although no concrete agreement has been reached yet. It remains uncertain whether a deal could materialize in the January transfer window.

Valued at £63m (transfermarkt) Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s historic Serie A triumph, their first league title in 33 years. He also clinched the league’s Golden Boot, scoring an impressive 26 goals.

The Gunners are keen to bolster their attack as they aim to reignite their Premier League challenge. Alongside Osimhen, Arsenal have also been linked with potential moves for Benjamin Šeško and Dusan Vlahović.

Arsenal currently sit third in their Champions League group under the competition’s new format. They will continue their quest for a first-ever Champions League trophy when they face Dinamo Zagreb on January 22 at the Emirates Stadium.

A victory in this crucial fixture would edge the Gunners closer to securing Round of 16 qualification while also providing a significant morale boost for the team. With Arsenal eager to find consistency across all competitions, the upcoming match represents an opportunity to regain momentum and lift the spirits of both players and fans as they strive for success domestically and in Europe.

With the January transfer deadline approaching, Arsenal fans will hope for reinforcements to strengthen their squad and maintain their push for silverware this season.
