Arsenal showing ‘strong interest’ in signing Matheus Cunha
Arsenal are reportedly showing a ‘strong interest’ in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, as per Football Insider.
The Brazilian has been attracting a lot of attention in this winter window after displaying promising performances in the first half of this season, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists in the Premier League.
However, despite his eye-catching displays, the West Midlands club’s new manager Vitor Pereira has recently been critical of the forward’s body language. As a result, speculation surrounding his future has been fuelled.
Now, Football Insider report that Arsenal are showing a ‘strong interest’ in signing Cunha and Wolves believe the Gunners could submit a formal proposal to get the deal done before the deadline.
Apart from Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are also interested in him and they could also make a formal proposal to seal the deal late in this window.
However, Wolves have no intention of letting their star man leave in mid-season as he has been playing a key role in their quest for survival this campaign.
Cunha to Arsenal
The Brazilian has a contract until 2027 at Molineux Stadium so Pereira’s side are in a strong position to demand a big fee to sell him in this window and have slapped a £70m price tag on his head.
The North London club are keen on bolstering the attacking department in this window following Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus’ injury absence. Mikel Arteta’s side have been mounting a title charge this term and they need reinforcements in the attack to finally win the league title.
Cunha is a proven Premier League player and is versatile. He is comfortable out wide plus can provide cover in the centre-forward position if needed. However, the South American isn’t a natural striker and Arsenal must go for a proven number nine.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to secure the Wolves star’s service before the end of this winter window to bolster the frontline.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will face off against Girona in the Champions League today before taking on Manchester City in the Premier League next weekend.
