Arsenal ready to spend big to sign Lautaro Martínez
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to spend big to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After joining the Nerazzurri back in 2018, the Argentinian has established himself as an integral part of the Italian giant’s starting eleven over the years.
He helped his side win the Scudetto in the 2020/21 and last campaign, moreover, the forward guided Inter to win multiple major domestic cup competitions. He even won the World Cup with Argentina and two Copa America trophies.
Martinez has netted more than 20 goals in the last three Serie A campaigns. He has continued to showcase his goal-scoring prowess this season as well, scoring 15 goals and registering three assists in all competitions.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal are ready to bolster their striker position by signing a top-class player and have identified Martinez as a key option after being impressed by his performances for the Nerazzurri.
Martinez to Arsenal
The Gunners are even preparing to splash a fee of around £100m to get the deal done and Inter could be ready to accept the proposal if they receive it. The player is attracted to play in the Premier League so he would be open to moving to the Emirates Stadium.
Declan Rice is currently Arsenal’s record transfer and they spent £100m to hire him. Therefore, if Arsenal purchase Martinez by spending the reported fee then he will become their joint record acquisition.
Martinez has showcased his qualities at the highest level in recent years and is currently the club captain of Inter so the 27-year-old possesses the leadership qualities.
Arsenal need a serial winner like him in their squad to take the next step and finally win the Premier League title. Therefore, he could be an excellent acquisition for the North London club if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arteta’s side eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium to strengthen the attacking department next summer.
Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins have also been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent times so it remains to be seen who they eventually opt to purchase ahead of next season.
