Arsenal have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

The Gunners started this season with the ambition of finally winning the Premier League title having narrowly missed out on achieving that feat in the last two seasons.

However, they have had an inconsistent campaign so they are unlikely to be able to achieve their objective this term. Therefore, they need to freshen up the squad next summer to return to their best.

Now, reporting on TBR Football, Bailey says that Arsenal want to revamp the attack by signing a new striker and wide forward in the upcoming transfer window and have identified Gittens as a serious option to strengthen the flank. The Gunners have been monitoring his development closely in recent times before making a potential swoop.

Gittens to Arsenal

Dortmund want a fee of around £70m to sell the youngster with his existing deal set to run until 2028. The Englishman is even prepared to return to his homeland to play in the Premier League so this is a huge boost for Arsenal in pursuit of him.

However, purchasing him won’t be straightforward as Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa are also interested in securing his service.

The journalist says Gittens isn’t the only option on Arsenal’s wishlist to bolster the wide position as Mohammed Kudus, Nico Williams, Ademola Lookman and Bryan Mbeumo are also on their radar.

Dortmund have had a disappointing campaign in the Bundesliga this season, languishing in the mid-table and sitting seven points behind fourth-placed Freiburg. However, Gittens has been in fine form, scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in all competitions.

The 20-year-old is a left winger by traits and is a highly talented player. Therefore, he could be an excellent acquisition for the North London club with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.

However, he hasn’t showcased his qualities at the highest level consistently enough yet so spending the reported £70m fee to hire him would be a huge risk. Therefore, Arsenal would be better off exploring other options if BVB don’t lower their valuation.
