Arsenal ‘optimistic’ about signing Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly ‘optimistic’ about signing RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Gunners are said to be willing to strengthen the attacking department by signing a new prolific goalscorer in the upcoming transfer window. A host of names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Mateo Retegui being among them.
Moreover, Mikel Arteta’s side are interested in signing Sesko as well. Speaking on GiveMeSport, Jacobs says that Manchester United have also expressed their interest in signing the Slovenian to bolster the frontline and address their goal-scoring issues.
However, Arsenal are above the Red Devils in this race and are most ‘optimistic’ about the possibility of signing him. The Gunners are also interested in Newcastle United star Isak and may prioritise purchasing him if an opportunity arises. In that case, Arsenal may opt not to go for Sesko.
Jacobs said:
“It seems pretty clear right now, unless Alexander Isak and a Newcastle exit influences the situation, that Arsenal feel most optimistic about Benjamin Sesko.”
Sesko to Arsenal
The forward has been showcasing his productivity in the German Bundesliga this season, scoring 16 goals and registering five assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.
Sesko is valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt and still has four and a half years left in his current contract with the German side having recently extended his contract. Therefore, Marco Rose’s side are in a strong position to demand a huge fee to sell him.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in the last two seasons, it looks like they won’t be able to win the league this campaign either.
It has widely been suggested that the North London club need a prolific striker to finally win the title as Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz don’t have the necessary qualities to help them achieve their lofty ambitions. Now, the duo have sustained serious injuries so their season is over.
Sesko is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they eventually manage to purchase him next summer.
