Arsenal keen on signing Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Rayan Ait-Nouri, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners currently have enough firepower in their left-back department as they already have Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney.
Moreover, Jakub Kiwior and Jurrien Timber can also provide cover in this position if needed. However, Kiwior has found it difficult to play regularly after joining from Spezia a couple of years ago so speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in recent months.
On the other hand, Tierney has entered the final few months of his current contract and is expected to leave as a free agent next summer. Additionally, Zinchenko has struggled with injury problems in recent seasons and hasn’t been able to play regularly.
Therefore, he could also be allowed to leave at the end of this season. So, perhaps, Mikel Arteta is contemplating adding more depth in the left-back position.
Ait-Nouri to Arsenal
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Ait-Nouri to bolster the defence and they hold a long-term interest in the Algerian international. Wolves are even ready to sell him for a fee of around £50m.
However, purchasing him won’t be straightforward as Manchester United and Liverpool are also plotting a swoop for him, additionally, AC Milan are in this race as well.
The Rossoneri want him as a potential replacement for Theo Hernandez with Real Madrid showing a concrete interest in bringing the Frenchman back to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
Ait-Nouri is a left-back by traits but is also comfortable in the LWB role. He has been in fine form this season, although Wolves have been in relegation scrap, netting four goals and registering five assists in all competitions.
The Algerian is a highly talented player and is considered one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, Arsenal don’t need to spend the reported £50m fee to hire a new fullback, rather they would be better off saving the money to sign a new prolific centre forward.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the North London club will make a concrete approach to sign Ait-Nouri next summer.
