Arsenal Target Lille Striker Jonathan David

By on March 4, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make an offer for Lille striker Jonathan David, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri via Sky Sports.

The 25-year-old Canadian international is approaching a crucial decision regarding his future, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

As things stand, there are no expectations of a renewal, making him a potential target for several clubs. Valued at £37m by Transfermarkt, he’d be a bargain for the likes of Arsenal if they can win the race for his signature.

Arsenal have previously been linked with a number of attacking reinforcements, including Nico Williams, Benjamin Šeško, and Alexander Isak.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that David has now emerged as another option on their list of attacking targets.

Competition for David’s Signature

Mikel Arteta’s side are not the only ones interested in securing the services of the Lille forward.

West Ham United and Barcelona are also reportedly in the race, with Tavolieri claiming that the Hammers have made David their priority signing.

Before making a concrete move for the Canadian striker, Arsenal are expected to complete the recruitment of a new sporting director.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Andrea Berta is currently leading the race for the role, with the process in its advanced stages.

The Atletico Madrid director is among four candidates for the position, alongside Dan Ashworth, Roberto Olabe, and Jason Ayto.

Arsenal’s Interest in Jonathan David

The Gunners failed to bring in a striker during the winter transfer window, despite being in a tight title race with Liverpool.

Their inability to reinforce their frontline has contributed to their struggles in keeping up with Jürgen Klopp’s side, as they now sit 13 points behind the Premier League leaders.

It remains unclear whether Arsenal see Jonathan David as a priority striker signing or as an addition to improve their squad depth.

However, his versatility—being able to play as both a central striker and a supporting forward—makes him an attractive option.

David has been a consistent performer for Lille this season, registering 21 goals and eight assists across all competitions. His impressive output highlights the quality he can bring to any team he join.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will continue their quest for Champions League glory as they face PSV Eindhoven in their Round of 16 clash.

With crucial games ahead, the Gunners will be looking to strengthen their squad in the summer, and Jonathan David could well be one of their key targets as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
