Arsenal monitoring Bologna’s forward Santiago Castro

By on March 10, 2025

Arsenal scouts are keeping a close eye on Bologna’s promising Argentine forward, Santiago Castro, as they look to strengthen their attacking options in the coming seasons, according to Football Transfers .

After failing to secure a striker in the January transfer window despite a pressing need, the Gunners are determined to strengthen their frontline.

Their search has led them to Castro, who has been making waves in Serie A.

Gunners Add Castro to Growing Striker Shortlist

Mikel Arteta’s side has been linked with several high-profile forwards, including Benjamin Šeško, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen. Now, Castro has emerged as a new name on Arsenal’s radar.

The 20-year-old joined Bologna from Vélez Sarsfield in January 2024 for around €10 million and has quickly adapted to Italian football.

In the 2024/25 season, he has made 26 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

His performances have drawn comparisons to Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez, earning him the nickname Mini Lautaro.

Arsenal’s scouting team has been particularly impressed by his consistency, making him a serious candidate for a potential move to North London.

Premier League and European Giants in the Race

Arsenal are not the only club tracking Castro, as Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and West Ham United are also showing interest.

Meanwhile, reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan are monitoring his progress, adding to the competition for his signature.

Bologna are expected to demand a transfer fee in the region of £21–25 million, a valuation that reflects Castro’s rising stock in European football.

Beyond his league performances, the Argentine forward has been a key player in Bologna’s domestic cup campaign.

His standout moment came when he scored the decisive goal that sent the club into the Coppa Italia semifinals for the first time in 26 years.

His ability to step up in crucial moments has further increased his appeal.

Arsenal’s Strong Ties With Bologna Could Be Key

The Gunners have a positive transfer history with Bologna, having successfully signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from the Italian club in 2021.

More recently, they secured the services of left-back Riccardo Calafiori in 2024.

As Arsenal plan for the 2025/26 season, acquiring a versatile and dynamic forward like Castro could provide the attacking depth they need.

With multiple clubs closely monitoring him, the coming months will be crucial in determining his next destination.
