Arsenal Target Espanyol Duo El Hilali and Garcia
Arsenal are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.
Mikel Arteta’s side are expected to focus on bringing in a marquee striker and a defensive midfielder.
However, they are also eyeing a backup goalkeeper and additional defensive options according to reports from The SUN.
One player on their radar is Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, a long-term target for the Gunners.
Arsenal previously made a £17 million offer for the 23-year-old last summer, but the Spanish club turned it down, holding out for the £21 million release clause.
Reports now suggest Espanyol could accept a lower fee for an early summer deal.
Arsenal Still Keen on Joan Garcia
Garcia is regarded as a top goalkeeper talent, and Arsenal see him as a reliable backup for David Raya. His impressive reflexes and shot-stopping ability have caught the attention of many clubs.
This season, he has averaged 3.7 saves per game with a success rate of 72 percent, showcasing his quality between the posts.
The Spaniard is also known for his long-ball distribution and calmness under pressure, similar to Raya’s style.
His buyout clause may rise by £4 million if he earns a senior cap for Spain, but it could drop if Espanyol face relegation according to Mundo Deportivo.
The La Liga side currently sit 15th in the table, just one point above the drop zone.
Arsenal Also Eyeing Omar El Hilali
In addition to Garcia, The Sun is reporting that Arsenal have set their sights on another Espanyol player—right-back Omar El Hilali.
The 21-year-old Moroccan international has become a regular starter for the Spanish club and is highly regarded for his defensive abilities.
El Hilali has a release clause worth £12.5 million, making him an affordable option for the Gunners.
Known for his one-on-one defending, he has averaged six duels and four tackles per game this season.
His versatility allows him to play as a left-back or center-back when needed.
The Moroccan star has made 76 first-team appearances for Espanyol, contributing six assists in league and cup competitions.
His ball recoveries and interceptions make him an asset at the back, and his low buyout clause could tempt Arsenal into making a move.
Smart Business for Arsenal
Adding Garcia and El Hilali would improve Arsenal’s squad depth without breaking the bank. Garcia could serve as a quality backup to Raya, while El Hilali would provide defensive cover and versatility.
With Espanyol’s financial situation and relegation threat, Arsenal might strike a deal for both players.
These additions would give Arteta more options in goal and defense as the Gunners look to build a stronger squad for the future.
