Arsenal to trigger release clause to sign Martin Zubimendi
Arsenal are reportedly planning to trigger Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi’s release clause to secure his service, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners started this season with the ambition of finally winning the Premier League title having narrowly missed out on achieving that feat in the last two campaigns.
However, they have displayed inconsistent performances this term and as a result, Mikel Arteta’s side are looking set to lose the title race once again and this time to Liverpool.
Despite losing to Fulham yesterday, the Reds are currently 11 points ahead of the North London club at the top of the table and need as many more points in the last seven remaining games to win the league.
Still, Arsenal can end the season successfully if they win the Champions League trophy and have been drawn to play against Real Madrid in the quarterfinal.
Amid this situation, the transfer window is approaching fast and Caught Offside claim that Arteta’s side are planning to strengthen several positions ahead of next season to challenge on all fronts next campaign.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
Arsenal have focused on reinforcing the engine room as Thomas Partey and Jorginho could leave for free this summer and have earmarked Zubimendi as the ‘primary’ target.
Real Madrid and Liverpool are also interested in the Spaniard but the Gunners made great efforts to reach an agreement with Real Sociedad over this deal in the winter window to beat competition in this race.
Arsenal have already reached a verbal agreement with the player regarding the personal terms and are ready to trigger his £51m[€60m] release clause. However, they want to pay a bit more than the clause for more favourable payment terms as the release clause needs to be paid in full.
Zubimendi has proven his worth in La Liga over the years and has secured his place in Spain’s starting Xl amid Rodrigo Hernandez’s injury absence.
Therefore, the Real Sociedad star would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service in the upcoming transfer window.
