Arsenal in race to sign Hjulmand from Sporting CP
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP, according to CaughtOffside.
Mikel Arteta is keen on adding a new midfielder to his squad as part of a summer rebuild. Arsenal have been linked with several options in recent months.
The Gunners fell short in this season’s Premier League title race due to squad depth issues, injuries and a lack of consistency.
With that in mind, Arteta is hoping to fix key positions in the summer, starting with midfield.
The club are likely to lose Jorginho at the end of the season. Thomas Partey’s contract situation is still unresolved.
Arteta wants a strong, reliable midfielder who can sit in front of the defence and give more freedom to creative players.
Hjulmand attracting strong interest
Reports claim Arsenal are one of the top European clubs monitoring Hjulmand closely.
The 24-year-old has impressed for Sporting this season and they may demand up to £52 million to sell, as per the report.
Hjulmand has strong technical skills and leadership qualities. These traits have made him a target for several Premier League clubs.
Sporting are open to letting him leave this summer, but only for the right fee.
Manchester United are also said to be interested in the midfielder. He could reunite with his former boss Rúben Amorim if United push for a deal.
However, United’s interest is not as serious as Arsenal’s at this stage.
The Red Devils are in need of midfield reinforcements, but it is unclear if they will make a strong move for Hjulmand.
Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race. Spurs are building a young and competitive squad under Ange Postecoglou.
Hjulmand may be tempted by the idea of regular football in the Premier League. Tottenham could offer him the platform to grow.
Arsenal remain one of the leading contenders, but they face competition from domestic rivals.
It is now a question of who moves first and meets Sporting’s valuation.
