Arsenal looking to hijack Man Utd’s deal to sign Cunha
Arsenal are reportedly planning to hijack Manchester United’s deal to sign Matheus Cunha, as per GiveMeSport.
The 25-year-old has been displaying impressive performances at Molineux Stadium in recent campaigns. In 36 appearances in all competitions, he made 22 goal contributions last term.
He has showcased his goal-scoring prowess this season as well, scoring 16 goals and registering four assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, the Brazilian has helped his side survive relegation.
Having been impressed by his performances, Man Utd have expressed their interest in signing him and have already held talks with the player’s representatives to persuade him to join.
However, GiveMeSport state that Arsenal are also interested in him and have been weighing up a move to hijack the Red Devils’ deal.
Cunha to Arsenal
However, the Gunners have concerns about the player’s discipline and aren’t sure whether the player can continue his best at the highest level. Therefore, they don’t want to get involved in a bidding war with United over this deal.
Nottingham Forest are also interested in him and have been pushing hard to sign him. But, Cunha wants to join a top-tier club, so it is now up to the Emirates club whether they will eventually make a concrete approach to purchase him.
The Brazilian recently signed an extension with Wolves until 2029 and has a £62.5m release clause, which can be triggered this summer.
Cunha is a versatile forward as he can play out wide and in the centre-forward position. The South American has been showcasing his best in the CAM role in a 3-4-2-1 formation at Wolves.
The forward has proven his worth in the Premier League and is set to turn 26 next month. So, he is currently at the prime stage of his career, and this is the right time to take the next step.
Therefore, he might be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to hijack Man Utd’s deal.
Meanwhile, following the Crystal Palace fixture last night, Arsenal will face off against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg next week.
