Arsenal reportedly feel they have already sealed a deal to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, as per transfer expert David Ornstein.

The Spaniard has been a subject of attention for several big clubs around Europe after showcasing his qualities in La Liga in recent years. Liverpool were keen on signing him last summer and even made a concrete approach. However, the player rejected a move to Anfield to stay at his boyhood club.

Now, he has been attracting the interest of Real Madrid in recent weeks as Los Blancos are said to be willing to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager to replace Carlo Ancelotti, and the Spaniard wants to sign the 26-year-old.

However, on NBC Sports Soccer, Ornstein says that Arsenal are acting internally as if they have already secured a deal for the Spanish international.

The Gunners want a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Jorginho, who is set to leave as a free agent upon the expiration of his current contract at the end of this season.

Ornstein said:

“Fellow midfielder Jorginho is going to be leaving we believe when his terms expire at the end of the campaign. They will be adding to the midfield with the arrival of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Arsenal are acting internally as if that is a done deal, they’re also looking to add into the attack.”

Zubimendi to Arsenal

The Real Sociedad star still has two years left in his current contract and has a £51m release clause in his current deal.

Zubimendi is one of the best midfielders in La Liga and has been a key player for Spain in recent times amid Rodrigo Hernandez’s injury absence.

The Real Sociedad star is a technically gifted player and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Mikel Arteta’s system. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey’s future is also currently uncertain at the club as his existing deal with the North London club will expire at the end of this season. But Arteta’s side are reportedly set to keep hold of him by tying him down to a fresh term.
