Arsenal are reportedly battling with European giants over a deal to sign LOSC Lille star Jonathan David, as per TEAMtalk.

After moving to Stade Pierre Mauroy from Belgian side KAA Gent back in 2020, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a successful time over the years, winning a Ligue 1 title.

He has been scoring goals consistently for Les Dogues in recent campaigns, and things haven’t changed this season either, netting 25 times and registering 11 assists in all competitions.

The Canadian helped his side beat both Madrid clubs in the Champions League earlier this season by putting his name on the scoresheet. Moreover, he has been propelling his team to qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four, sitting third in Ligue 1.

However, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in recent months as he is set to leave Lille as a free agent during the offseason.

TEAMtalk claim that Inter Milan have made the most concrete approach to hire him and have already submitted a formal contract offer.

However, the player hasn’t committed to his future with the Nerazzurri yet, and Arsenal are looking to take advantage of that as they are keen on purchasing him.

Moreover, Liverpool, West Ham United, and Barcelona are also interested in signing him, so Mikel Arteta’s side will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal.

Arsenal want a new striker this summer to help Arteta finally win the Premier League title. A host of names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times, with Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, and Viktor Gyokeres being among them.

Now, it seems David is on their radar as well. The 25-year-old has showcased his goal-scoring prowess with Lille and is currently at the right age to take the next step in his career.

Therefore, he might be a shrewd bargain signing for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, David doesn’t have Premier League experience and may take time to settle down if he were to join.

So, he might not be able to make an impact straightaway. Therefore, Arsenal would be better off going for a Premier League proven player like Isak over David to bolster the frontline this summer.
