Wenger Rules Flamini Out Of Dortmund Clash
Mathieu Flamini has been ruled out of tomorrow’s clash with Borussia Dortmund due to concussion.
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference today ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League encounter and told Sky Sports News that the French midfielder will not take part due to a five-day ruling for concussion.
Flamini was forced off midway through the first half against Norwich on Saturday after a nasty clash of heads, complaining of double vision. Club doctors have confirmed he suffered concussion and as is compulsory these days, players must be given five days to recover before playing again.
The 29-year-old is back in training but the boss confirmed to reporters today he won’t feature against the German’s tomorrow.
“Flamini is doing well, has practiced normally, but we will not play him tomorrow.
“There is a five-days (concussion) rule that we will respect, not to take any chance. It was a concussion and the doctor advised us not to play him. He will be okay for the weekend.
“I’ll leave myself 24 hours until tomorrow afternoon to decide the team.”
Flamini’s absence will be a blow as Dortmund can be devastating in attack but it will mean Aaron Ramsey is likely to start alongside Mikel Arteta at the base of midfield, which should be enough to give last years finalists a real game.
Victory would see us reach nine points with three games to spare, so qualification would be all but secured.
