Wenger To Finally Sign Long-Term Striker Target?

According to reports today, Juventus striker Fernando Llorente wants to join Arsenal in January.

We were strongly linked with the Spaniard a year ago with Arsene Wenger understood to be a big fan of the 28-year-old’s.

However, he ended up signing a pre-contract agreement with Juve and joined the Serie A champions on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao in the summer.

But his time in Italy has not gone according to plan and he’s been forced to sit on the sidelines for much of the season with Carlos Tevez and Marko Vucinic preferred up front by boss Antonio Conte.

With the 2014 World Cup on the horizon it seems Llorente is beginning to get concerned about his chances of making the Spain squad, and the Mirror claim he’s now ready to seek a move and is keen on coming to the Emirates when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Wenger is almost certainly going to be in the market for another striker this winter, unless Nicklas Bendtner finds some miraculous form over the coming weeks, and the newspaper suggests Llorente could make a short-term loan move to provide competition for Olivier Giroud up front.

It would certainly make a lot of sense. We need another striker, Llorente needs more playing time, so a short-term deal could be the answer. But will Juve allow it? That remains to be seen.

I’d love to see the player join us and although he’ll be cup tied in Europe, he’d make a big difference having him to call upon in the league, but we’ll have to wait and see whether anything comes of this.
