Arsenal To Sign Reus For £30m?
Arsenal could sign Marco Reus for just £30m after Borussia Dortmund executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed the attacker has a buy-out clause in his contract.
We’ve been linked with the German international for some time and the rumours of our interest have only heightened since he continued his excellent form for Dortmund following a move from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2012.
The 24-year-old has scored 29 goals in just 64 games for the Germans and is now rightly regarded as one of the most exciting attackers in European football, so it’s no surprise to read he’s attracting interest.
Usually, a player such as Reus would be almost unattainable but it turns out he could be signed for ‘just’ £30m (€35m) due to a buy-out clause in his current deal.
“Marco Reus possesses a release clause option in his current contract at our club. He could leave our club due to that.
“He is, however, the only player in our first-team squad that has such a contract clause.” Watzke is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News
While Watzke doesn’t disclose the figure needed to activate his clause, Sky Sports News claim it’s £30m (€35m) which would represent an excellent piece of business for someone of Reus’ talent.
If I was Arsene Wenger, I’d do everything in my power to try and lure the German attacker to north London as he’d be a superb addition to our squad and give us real pace and threat from either the left or the right wing.
However, unsurprisingly we’ll face some stiff competition for his services with the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain also believed to be interested.
Reus’ contract expires in 2017 but Dortmund are reportedly desperate to open talks over a new deal that would see the buy-out clause removed, so we’ll have to hurry up if we have any desire to sign him.
Any move in January is almost impossible though, as he’s highly unlikely to switch clubs mid-season with the World Cup just a few months away so we will have to wait until the summer and hope he hasn’t agreed a new contract by that point.
