REPORT: Vadillo ‘On Verge’ Of Making €20m Arsenal Move
Some interesting news coming out of Spain today with reports claiming that Arsenal have agreed a deal worth €20m to sign Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo.
We’ve been linked with the 19-year-old since the summer with scouts understood to have been keeping a close eye on the attacker in recent months.
However, according to Spanish media outlet Punto Pelota, Arsenal officials have now reached an agreement with Betis to sign the player for €20m (£16.5m) and all that’s left is for the paperwork to be signed.
From what I can gather, the main source is a Spanish journalist called Pipi Estrada, and he’s claiming that we are in the final stages of talks, with Vadillo already having “one foot in at Arsenal” and is “on the verge of joining” after Arsene Wenger personally took part in the negotiations.
Vadillo became the second youngest player to feature in a La Liga game when he made his debut for Betis as a 16-year-old in 2011, and his amazing skill saw him likened to Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, his progress was hampered after he picked up a serious injury after only a handful of appearances and he was on the sidelines for a number of months with a torn cruciate ligament. He’s since made a successful return to action and has featured in La Liga 10 times this season, while he’s also represented Spain at Under 18, 19 and 20 level.
It remains to be seen how much truth there is in these reports but he certainly sounds like he’d be an exciting prospect – although £16.5m does sound like a huge fee for a player who’s only played 26 times for Real Betis and is yet to prove himself at any real level.
I’d also have my reservations about spending such a fee on another attacking midfielder when we should really be concentrating our efforts on buying a striker. But nothing is concrete at the minute so we should just take these reports with a pinch of salt for now.
