Transfer News: Scouts Watch ‘Baby Messi’ – Brazilian Midfielder Linked
The January transfer window is approaching fast so we have some transfer news for you this evening. So let’s get straight to it:
The Daily Mail are claiming that Arsene Wenger has sent his scouts to watch highly-rated Scottish teenager Ryan Gauld in action for Dundee United against Kilmarnock tonight.
The 17-year-old has been hitting the headlines with some impressive displays this season and provided four assists last weekend in front of scouts from Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton.
It appears we’re the latest club to throw our hat into the ring for the midfielder, who’s been dubbed the ‘Baby Messi’ by his team-mates, and a bidding war could ensue in January.
Dundee United are desperate to hang on to the attacker and are trying to tie him down to a new contract, but it’s going to be difficult for the youngster to resist a big-money move down south. Reports claim United will demand a fee in the region of £6m for Gauld, which seems pretty steep for a kid thats only played a handful of games in Scotland.
There are also reports in Germany claiming that we’ve been ‘alerted’ to the news that Luiz Gustavo has a buy-out clause in his contract.
The Brazilian midfielder was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer before eventually opting to join Wolfsburg in a £16.5million deal.
Reports at the time suggested Gustavo snubbed us in favour of moving to Wolfsburg as they were prepared to offer him guaranteed first team football – something we couldn’t do – and he was mindful of playing week-in week-out in the run up to the 2014 World Cup.
However, the Express newspaper claim that reports emanating from Germany state we could renew our interest in the summer as the 25-year-old has a buy-out clause in his contract.
I’m not sure I would look too much into this one. We are well stocked in midfield at present and Mathieu Flamini has been excellent since returning to the club in the summer. I wouldn’t expect another defensive midfielder to be bought any time soon.
