Duchâtelet Confirms Arsenal’s Interest In Belgian Striker

By on December 6, 2013

The president of Standard Liege, Roland Duchâtelet, has confirmed Arsenal are interested in signing young striker Michy Batshuayi.

According to reports in Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, a whole host of clubs are tracking the highly-rated striker – who has scored 14 goals already for Liege this season.

Arsenal are understood to be the latest club to show their interest with Arsene Wenger deploying scout Giles Grimandi to keep an eye on the 20-year-old in recent weeks.

Several British newspapers have also picked up on the story now and it’s believed that we could be eyeing Batshuayi as a potential alternative to Alvaro Morata – who’s ruled out leaving Real Madrid.

Liege president Duchâtelet has confirmed our interest in the starlet but insists they won’t allow the striker to leave in January:

“What is new is the interest of Arsenal in Michy, they’re one of the many clubs who follow our striker.

“We’re not willing to let Michy go this season,”

Batshuayi came through the Anderlecht youth set-up before disciplinary problems saw him join Liege in 2008. While he’s progressed to become a first team regular, his wild-child side still haunts him with the youngster being sent home from Belgium under-21 duty on more than one occasion after inviting girls back to his hotel room the night before games.

He certainly sounds like a bit of a LAD, but whether he’ll end up making a move to the Emirates any time soon is anyone’s guess.
