Wenger Denies Morata Talks + Hints At No New Striker
Arsene Wenger held his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of Monday’s game with Aston Villa and he was predictably asked about his interest in Alvaro Morata.
The Real Madrid striker has been strongly linked with a loan move to the Emirates in recent days with some reports this morning suggesting his agents are flying to London to hold talks with Arsenal’s representatives.
However, when asked about his interest in the 21-year-old, Wenger insisted the club are not in talks to sign the youngster or anybody else for that matter:
Wenger claims Arsenal are not in talks with Real about Morata "or anybody". #afc

The boss was pushed about bringing in another striker following the news that Theo Walcott would miss the rest of the season and despite previously admitting he may have to dip into the transfer market, Wenger has now suggested that with Bendtner due back in a few weeks we have no shortage of strikers unless somebody else picks up an injury.
Boss: "@bendtnerb52 will be back at the end of January, at the moment we have no shortage unless we have other injuries" #AVFCvAFC

I really hope the boss is bluffing here, because even with Bendtner and Giroud fit, we are still short of cover up front. I think it’s clear we are on the look-out for opportunities in the market, but I have a feeling Wenger isn’t really desperate.
He’s not going to panic buy and bring someone in just for the sake of it. We’ve all been here before. Fans and journalists were adamant we’d sign a striker in the summer and it didn’t happen.
However, I remain hopeful that we’ll sign a new striker this month, either on loan or a permanent deal. We’re top of the league and in with a great chance of ending out trophy drought, and Wenger won’t want to risk missing out due to a lack of depth up front.
Lets see what the next few days and weeks bring…..
