Wenger ‘In Talks With Agent’ Over €30m Striker Move
An interesting report is doing the rounds today that claims Arsene Wenger held talks with the agent of Mario Balotelli earlier this week about a potential €30m (£25m) move to Arsenal.
Balotelli is a name that’s been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few weeks with the striker expected to leave AC Milan at the end of the season after a supposed fall out with the clubs president, while he’s also been subjected to disgusting racial abuse from ‘supporters’ in recent months.
He only moved back to Italy from Manchester City a year ago and has been hugely impressive in a poor AC Milan team, scoring 25 goals in 38 appearances so far.
With Wenger drawing up his list of summer targets and a striker desperately needed, it seems he’s stepped up his interest in Balotelli with the Metro claiming that the boss held talks with the players agent, Mino Riola, on Monday about a potential switch to north London.
The 23-year-old is valued at around €30m (£25m) which should be well within our budget considering the boss is believed to have upward of £70m to spend following the announcement of our new kit deal with PUMA.
There were even reports flying about suggesting that PUMA might be willing to part-fund our move for Balotelli, as he’s also a client of there’s and they are keen for him to join us, but I wouldn’t pay much attention that that as it’s highly unlikely to happen.
So, is Balotelli the answer to our striker need? Yes and no. He’s clearly a huge talent and has all the quality to be a world class forward, but his attitude stinks and he’s always been a problem at whatever club he’s been at. Do we want that type of character in the dressing room?
Arsenal seem to have a great camaraderie among the players at present and we wouldn’t want to disrupt that by adding a fire-cracker like Balotelli in there. So I’d prefer we go after other targets this summer.
What do you think? Would Balotelli be a good signing?
