Arsenal Believe They’ve ‘Lost Out On Draxler’, According To Fjortoft
Arsenal believe they missed out on the signing of Julian Draxler the minute Bayern Munich confirmed their interest, according to German-based pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft.
We’ve been heavily linked with Draxler over the past 12 months and were widely reported to be in deep negotiations with Schalke over the attacking midfielders signature in January.
At one point, a deal was thought to be close with representatives flying out to Germany during the final week of the winter window to try and thrash out the finer details.
However, it emerged that Schalke weren’t willing to sell the 20-year-old for anything less than his £37m buy-out fee and with Arsene Wenger refusing to meet that figure, any potential move was put on ice.
It was later claimed that Bayern Munich declared their interest in signing Draxler in January and asked him to turn down a switch to the Emirates until they had the chance to meet with him to discuss a move to the Allianz Arena this summer. There was never any concrete proof that this was the case though, and Schalke officials have always maintained that the youngster would never join their great Bundesliga rivals.
However, German based pundit and agent, Jan Aage Fjortoft, has claimed on Twitter today that Bayern have told Schalke they want to do a deal whereby they pay part of the fee in advance now with Draxler joining them in 2015. The former Middlesborough striker also suggests that Arsenal felt they ‘lost’ the player once Bayern entered the race, but we still have hope as the player himself remains undecided on where to join next.
Re: Draxler
I understand Bayern will try to make a deal with Schalke where they pay part of fee now, but Draxler will come to Bayern 2015

Re: Draxler
I have been told that Arsenal felt they "lost" player when Bayern entered the stage. But I understand player hasn't decided yet

Fjortoft proved himself to be a trustworthy source when he was the first to break the news that Mesut Ozil had signed for Arsenal and he’s got a few other deals spot on in the past as well, particularly for players close to Germany and German football.
He has been leaking information regarding Draxler for months now and while it’s difficult to know if any of it is 100% accurate, he does seem to be one of the more reliable ‘In The Knows’ out there.
It would be a real shame if we end up losing out on Draxler after going so close in January. It will be even more frustrating if we simply gave up and didn’t even try to fight with Bayern for his signature. To say we’ve already ‘lost’ the player when he’s yet to sign elsewhere is hardly showing much faith or ambition is it?
Let’s hope we really go all-out to land him because he’s one of the most exciting young talents in world football and he’d be a superb addition to the squad.
