Belgian Hot-Shot Confirms Move Plans After Declaring Love For Arsenal
Highly-rated Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi has issued a ‘come and get me plea’ to Arsene Wenger after declaring his love for Arsenal.
The 20-year-old has been attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs after a fine season with Standard Liege where he’s currently the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League with 18 goals.
We were linked with him last summer and again in January, and it seems the youngster has decided this will be his last season with Liege and has his eye on a move to England or Germany.
Batshuayi also revealed that his preferred destination would be the Emirates due to the clubs ‘philosophy’ of breeding young talent and claims he’s loved Arsenal since he was a child. He told Belgian TV station La Tribune:
“Unfortunately I do not think I’ll stay (at Standard past the summer),”
“Many things can happen but I am someone who has ambitions. I want to progress as quickly as possible. I’ll make a choice with my agents and my family. I must consider my choices carefully.”
“I am interested in the German and English championships. They are physical and technical championships.
“Personally, I like Arsenal. There is a good philosophy at the club, where trust is given to young players.
“This is a very technical team playing good football, and since I was little this was a team who I liked. I’ve loved the club from childhood.” [source: Mirror]
Batshuayi is contracted to Liege until 2018 but is understood to have a buy-out clause worth €8m written into his deal, so the Belgians will be powerless to prevent him leaving if someone matches that figure.
€8m, or £6.7m, would be a reasonable price for a player of his potential but if he did join I wouldn’t consider him anything other than a back-up to Olivier Giroud and the world class striker we’re hopefully going to buy this summer.
However, with the likes of Joel Campbell returning to the club and Yaya Sanogo already on the books, I don’t really see a place for Batshuayi at Arsenal.
