TEAM NEWS: Wenger Gives Latest Injury Update Ahead Of Man City
It’s been a tough week for Arsenal as we followed last weekend’s humiliation to Chelsea with a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Swansea City on Tuesday night.
So probably the last thing we need is to be playing free-scoring Manchester City on Saturday, and our task is even greater given the number of injuries we’ve got to deal with right now.
Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a team news and injury update this afternoon and although we’ve picked up no fresh concerns from the Swansea game, none of our injured players are going to be back in contention this weekend.
With Theo Walcott out for the season and Jack Wilshere also not expected back until the final few weeks, the boss confirmed on Tuesday night that Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey aren’t close to a comeback and ruled all three out for at least the next two or three weeks.
Arsene gave another update on Ramsey today, saying he is ‘progressing well’ but we have to be patient as the Welshman is still a ‘few more weeks’ away from full fitness. Given the number of set-backs Rambo’s already suffered, I wouldn’t put any timescale on his return. I’m almost at a point where if we see him again this season, it will be a bonus.
It’s impossible to know how the season would have gone if Ramsey didn’t get injured against West Ham on Boxing Day, but I’m willing to bet good money we’d be a lot closer to Chelsea than we are now. Such a shame and rotten luck.
Arsene did have some positive news after confirming that Nacho Monreal will return to full training in a few days after recovering from a foot injury, but he’s unlikely to be involved against City.
Here’s what Wenger said:
on the latest team news…
Compared to Tuesday night, we have no new injuries and no-one coming back as well.
on the injured players…
Monreal should be the first one back in training because he is just starting to run in the next few days. After him, Ramsey is progressing well but we need to be patient for a few more weeks.
So we’ll face City with the same squad that played Swansea. Let’s hope we manage to put in a better performance because a repeat of the other night, and we have no hope of getting anything from the game….
