Revealed: 3 Of Wenger’s Top Summer Targets, Talks Already Underway
Arsene Wenger has dropped another huge hint that he’ll be staying on as Arsenal manager after admitting the club are already working hard everyday trying to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
The Frenchman’s contract expires in June and there have been rumours he could be ready to call-time on his 18-year stay in North London after a disappointing few weeks that have seen us go from league leaders to fifth spot.
However, the boss was quoted at his press conference on Monday as saying:
‘We do spend time on next season, we are really focused and working very hard,’
‘Every day we spend time on that [transfers].’
I still feel as long as we finish fourth and win the FA Cup, Arsene will sign his new deal, but failure to achieve either of those targets could see him walk (or be forced out).
Either way, it seems he’s already working on new recruits and the Daily Mail claim three of his top targets remain Alvaro Morata, Julian Draxler and Lars Bender.
We have been strongly linked with all three over the past two transfer windows and it appears we’re not going to make the same mistakes we made last year and plan to get our business done early.
The newspaper states that we’ve already opened talks with Real Madrid and Schalke over the potential signing of Morata and Draxler, while Bender and a new central defender remain priorities.
No further details are given on how the talks are progressing but it’s good to hear the club is being proactive and getting the ball rolling on transfer early. Last summer and January were disasters in the transfer market for Arsenal and we simply can not afford a repeat this year.
All three of the players mentioned by the Daily Mail would be excellent signings. They are young, experienced, hugely talented and fill positions that badly need strengthened.
If we could manage to land Morata, Draxler and Bender, and add the squad players we will also need, then we’ll have a far more balanced group heading into next season.
