Arsenal Set To Miss Out On €10m German Ace – Report
Arsenal could be set to miss out on Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter with Borussia Dortmund closing in on a €10m deal, writes the Express.
The German international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates last summer and his name was once again mentioned during the January transfer window as Arsene Wenger draw up a list of potential defensive signings.
Thomas Vermaelen is tipped to leave this summer after losing his place in the first team and we have very little back-up in the central defensive position, so at least one centre-back should be on the agenda.
Ginter was supposedly among the bosses top targets but it looks like we’re set to miss out with reports suggesting Borussia Dortmund are close to sealing a €10m deal for the 20-year-old.
The player confirmed earlier in the season that he was ready to make a move to a ‘big club’ and hinted he’d be open to a switch to the Premier League, but it seems Dortmund have convinced him to remain in the Bundesliga.
Jurgen Klopp has been busy getting his transfer business done early after already agreeing deals for Dong-Won Ji, Adrian Ramos and Nuri Sahin, and it looks like they’ll beat us to the signing of Ginter unless we make a late bid to hijack the deal.
However, given the fact Wenger is waiting until the end of the season to determine his own future, it’s highly unlikely we’ll make any formal moves to sign players just yet, which will see us miss out on the signing of one of Germany’s most promising defenders.
