Arsenal Linked With Unsettled €35m-Rated Bayern Star – Report
According to German newspaper Bild, Arsenal are keeping an eye on unsettled Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez.
Martinez moved to Bayern from Athletic Bilbao for €40m in 2012 and played a key role in Jupp Heynckes side as they went on to win a historic treble in his first season.
However, his place in the team has been less assured under Pep Guardiola this year, with the Spanish international only making 17 league appearances and he’s been used as both a defensive midfielder and a centre-back at times.
This hasn’t gone down too well with the player, with Bild claiming the 25-year-old is becoming increasingly frustrated at his bit-part role and has held talks with his agent, Margarita Garay, where he’s understood to have discussed the possibility of leaving this summer.
The German publication suggests that Arsenal, as well as Manchester City, are in the market for a defensive midfielder and are keeping an eye on Martinez’ situation.
Bayern have made it clear that if any player is unhappy, they need to go to the club and express their desire to leave, but the newspaper believes it would take an offer in the region of €35m to persuade them to sell.
I’m a huge fan of Javi Martinez and would obviously love him to join the club this summer, so if he’s disgruntled and open to leaving Bayern, I hope we show some ambition and really make a play for his signature.
