President Confirms Arsenal WILL Trigger Buy-Back Clause

Some interesting news coming out of Spain tonight with Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay quoted as saying that Arsenal have told the club they will be triggering a buy-back clause in Carlos Vela’s contract.

Vela left Arsenal on a permanent deal two years ago when we sold him to Sociedad for £2m, but we inserted a clause in the strikers contract that would allow us to buy him back for just £3.2m at any point during the course of his deal.

It looks like it was a shrewd move as the Mexican has blossomed in Spain and chipped in with an impressive 16 goals and 12 assists in his 34 appearances last season, leading to reports Arsene Wenger was considering bringing him back to north London.

ARSENAL OPEN GOALKEEPER TALKS

Reports over the weekend claimed that Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay flew into to the UK on Friday to hold talks with Arsenal officials to try and negotiate a deal that would see the buy-back clause removed.

However, it appears no deal was agreed as the Sociedad supremo has been quoted as saying that we made it clear we will be buying Vela back and he will be an Arsenal player again next season.

It’s an interesting move if true but I think it makes sense. Vela will be a more than useful player to have around the squad as he’ll be able to play out wide or through the middle, and he’s certainly improved while over in Spain.

The 25-year-old recently admitted that he is open to returning to the Emirates and is confident things will work out differently if he’s given another chance at Arsenal.

“Arsenal gave me the opportunity to come to Europe when I was 17. I didn’t have as many opportunities as I expected and I had to try new options. If I have to return to London, I will try to make things in a different way so what happened in the past won’t be repeated again.” Vela said

Hopefully if this move does go through Vela will prove himself in the Premier League this time around, and it really is a no-brainer to activate his buy-back clause at just £3.2m. The only other option would be to use the buy-back as leverage to land Antoine Griezmann on the cheap, and I’d be happy to see that happen too, but it looks like Arsene has decided to re-sign Vela and he could be our first major signing of the summer.
