“Mario Balotelli Won’t Be Joining Arsenal”
Italian pundit Paddy Agnew told talkSPORT this morning that AC Milan will NOT sell striker Mario Balotelli to Arsenal this summer.
There has been much talk in recent days suggesting that Balotelli was edging ever-closer to moving to the Emirates, with rumours of a £180,000-a-week contract being offered and a potential £30m fee being discussed.
There has even been speculation that Arsene Wenger may have met with the 23-year-old’s agent, Mino Raiola, over in Brazil to discuss the finer details of a move, and Barbra Berlosconi, the AC Milan vice-president, said yesterday on the clubs official website that Balotelli wasn’t irreplaceable, so fans have been getting excited by the thought of the Italian hitman joining Arsenal.
However, that’s not likely to happen according to Italian football expect Paddy Agnew. The Rome-based pundit was speaking on the Alan Brazil breakfast show this morning and when he was asked if Balotelli would be joining Arsenal this summer, Agnew insisted AC Milan won’t let him go.
“I don’t think they’re going to let him [Balotelli] go, it wouldn’t make any sense.”
You can listen to the full interview and here what Agnew said for yourself here, but he seemed certain that the Serie A club wouldn’t be selling Balotelli to Arsenal, or any other club for that matter, this summer.
Obviously it goes against much of what we’re being fed by the newspapers and AC Milan haven’t exactly been playing down the suggestion of Balotelli leaving, so I’d be inclined to take what Agnew said with a pinch of salt.
A deal may not be as close as the papers would have us believe, but if we meet AC Milan’s asking price, I remain confident Balotelli would be on his way to north London this summer.
