£40m Arsenal Target ‘Demands Move’ – Reports
Long-term Arsenal target Angel Di Maria has told Real Madrid he wants to leave the club this summer and the European champions are willing to sell for £40m, according to widespread reports today.
We were strongly linked with Di Maria last summer and were understood to be close to sealing a deal until Carlo Ancelotti pulled the plug and decided to sell Mesut Ozil instead.
Arsene Wenger has retained his interest in the Argentinean attacker and it now appears we have the chance to finally bring him to the Emirates as reports in Spain claim the 26-year-old has made it clear to Madrid officials he wants out this summer.
Several of the Spanish and UK newspapers are running with the story, suggesting that Di Maria has no intention of returning to the Bernabeu this summer as he feels under-valued at the club and Madrid bosses have apparently decided to cash-in and sell for £40m and will use the money to fund a move for James Rodriguez.
Di Maria did little to dampen the speculation when he admitted last week that his future at Madrid was unclear, which a player wouldn’t do unless he had doubts over where he’ll be playing next season.
Obviously we aren’t the only club interested, with the likes of Monaco, Man Uts, PSG and Juventus all linked, but I hope Arsene pulls out all the stops to try and bring him to north London.
He’s be a sensational signing and we have the money to do it. The main problem is I don’t see the boss going for Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez, despite having the money available to sign both, and looking at what we need to add to the squad, Sanchez should be the priority.
The Chilean has the raw power and pace we desperately need, whereas Di Maria is more of a creative play-maker, so if it’s got to be a straight choice between the two, I’d certainly go for Sanchez.
