Arsenal END Interest In Chelsea Target Loic Remy – BBC Report
It looks like our interest in Loic Remy didn’t last long as respected BBC journalist David Ornstein has claimed on Twitter that Arsenal have ended talks over a potential move.
News broke on Saturday night that Arsenal had made a dramatic late bid to hijack Chelsea’s move for the French international with widespread reports claiming we had also agreed to pay his £10.5m buy-out clause.
Arsene Wenger has always been a fan of the 27-year-old’s, so I wasn’t surprised in the slightest when I read these reports, as we need another striker after Giroud injury and Remy would be a bargain buy who has Premier League experience.
However, Ornstein tweeted this morning that although we have enquired about the striker, no official bid had been made and we’d only push forward with a move IF we could offload a striker ourselves.
Minutes later, Ornstein had another update and claimed that Arsenal have now ended their interest in Remy, and most worryingly, also revealed that we’re not close to making any other signings.
#AFC haven't met Remy release clause but are in conversations with #QPR about rivalling #CFC for him – IF they let a forward go #bbcfootball

#AFC have dropped Remy interest. Enquired but no longer pursuing. Currently not close to any signings before deadline #QPR #CFC #bbcfootball

So it looks like we’ve backed off and let Remy join Chelsea without putting up much of a fight, and going by what Ornstein says, we aren’t close to securing any other targets.
Ornstein works for the BBC but he’s pretty-much spoon-fed what to say by Arsenal, so we’ll have to remember the club have their own agenda for what they want put out in public.
We’re obviously actively looking for a striker if we enquired about Remy, while I’d be astounded if Arsene doesn’t also bring in a centre-back and defensive midfielder – or at least a player who can play play both roles.
The clock is ticking, let’s hope Arsene can get the deals done…..
