Arsenal Ready To Do Battle For €25m Attacker

By on September 8, 2014

Arsenal are ready to do battle with Manchester City over the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus next summer, it’s being reported.

Reus has been touted as a top transfer target for Arsene Wenger for some time now and there were even suggestions we had an agreement in place to sign the German international earlier this summer before he picked up a serious ankle injury.

We’re expected to resurrect our interest next summer when the 25-year-old will be available for just €25m due to his buy-out clause kicking in, but it looks as though we’re going to face some fierce competition for his signature.

The Daily Star claim that Man City have made Reus their top transfer target for next summer and their transfer-fixer Txiki Begiristain is apparently already working on the deal.

City have an agreement in place to sell Alvaro Negredo to Valencia on a permanent basis next year for £25m and the paper suggests Manuel Pellegrini plans to use the money to launch a move for Reus.

Dortmund are desperately trying to get the attacker to sign a new deal that would see his buy-out clause increased significantly, or even removed altogether, but the player has rejected their advances so far and it’s believed the club would much prefer to sell abroad than see their star man join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich if no deal can be agreed before next summer.

Obviously I’d love to see Reus join the club and it’s well known that Arsene rates the player highly, so hopefully he will pull out all the stops to try and convince him to opt for the Emirates over the Etihad.

However, I fear that in the end, we won’t be prepared to offer the kind of wages that City will be willing to offer, while the likes of Madrid, Barca and United will no doubt also be in the running so it’s extremely difficult to see Reus ending up at Arsenal.
