Wenger ‘Criticised Sanchez, Cazorla & Gibbs After Chelsea Defeat’

Arsene Wenger singled out Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs for criticism following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea, according to reports.

We held our own against the league leaders for the opening period at Stamford Bridge until we allowed Eden Hazard to weave his way into the area and win a penalty – which he then converted for 1-0 before Diego Costa sealed the win with a late second.

Wenger was clearly fired up as he clashed with Jose Mourinho on the sidelines during the match and it seems he took that frustration into the dressing room and gave the players a rare telling off after the game.

Goal are claiming that a furious Wenger singled out Sanchez, Gibbs and Cazorla for special criticism as he felt it was their individual mistakes in the lead up to the first goal that cost us the game.

The boss apparently pointed the finger at both Gibbs and Sanchez for losing possession in the build up while he blamed Cazorla for not bringing Hazard down outside the box before he won the spot kick, as the trio just sat quietly and took his criticism’s on board.

The report suggests that Arsene hadn’t been seen this angry since we lost 2-0 at home to Swansea in December 2012 as he felt he got his game-plan spot on, but was let down by the players.

It’s difficult to know what to make of the report as Goal only cite an unnamed ‘source’ but I’d be pleased if it’s true. I think the boss  is too protective of the players and needs to kick a few backsides now and then.

There’s nothing wrong with pulling players up if they’ve made a mistake and it’s also good to hear Arsene showing some fight. He’s often criticised himself for taking defeat on the chin too easily as if he no longer cares, so this tells us he might have got that fire back in his belly, which can only be a good thing.
