Arsenal Hit By Double Injury Blow Ahead Of Borussia Dortmund Game
Arsenal have been hit by a double injury blow ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund with Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny both set to miss the game, according to the Telegraph.
Wilshere picked up yet another ankle injury during our defeat to Manchester United on Saturday after a tackle from Paddy McNair left him in agony.
The newspaper claims that while scans have shown no sign of serious damage – which is obviously good news – the midfielder has suffered soft tissue damage and will sit out of Wednesday’s clash with Dortmund.
While the injury isn’t considered as long-term, it’s not clear if Jack will be back to face West Brom on Saturday but he’s due to have further tests today to determine the full extent of the problem.
Szczesny was also forced off just minutes after Wilshere at the weekend after injuring his hip following a collision with Kieran Gibbs in the build up to United’s opening goal.
Once again the injury isn’t thought to be too serious but the Telegraph claim it’s enough to see the Polish international miss the upcoming game with Dortmund.
With David Ospina still nursing a thigh injury it means Emiliano Martinez – who replaced Szczesny on Saturday – will have to start in goal for our crucial Champions League tie.
Obviously this is hardly ideal for such a big game but I suppose you can’t plan to have your top two goalkeepers out at the same time, so it’ll just have to be put down to bad luck.
