Arsenal Hit By Fresh Injury Blow As Star Faces SIX Weeks Out
Our bad luck with injuries continues as it seems Mikel Arteta is set to be ruled out for around six weeks with a calf injury.
Arteta was forced off midway through the second half against Borussia Dortmund last night after picking up yet another calf injury.
The midfielder recently missed three weeks with a calf problem and it seems he suffered a reoccurrence against the Germans.
Arsene Wenger confirmed to reporters after the game that the injury looks bad and he expects his skipper to be out for some time. He said:
“Mikel Arteta doesn’t look good – it’s a calf. I think he will be out for a while.
“The injuries are difficult to take on the chin. We go into many games and we need as many as possible available. The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight.
“Arteta again has a calf problem and that looks quite serious and we lost Sanogo as well on a hamstring problem.”
Although the boss refused to give an idea of how long he thinks Mikel will be out for, the Mirror are claiming this morning that the Spaniard is set to miss the next six weeks.
If this prognosis is accurate, it will be a huge blow. I’m not Arteta’s biggest fan and feel we need to sign a new holding midfielder as soon as possible, but he’s certainly the best option we currently have in the squad for that role.
Mathieu Flamini now looks set for a run in the first team as Jack Wilshere is also out for a couple of months and for me, Arsenal are a far weaker outfit with the Frenchman in the side.
Hopefully the Arteta injury isn’t as bad as first feared, but realistically we know it will be. This is Arsenal we’re talking about. He’ll probably end up missing three months….
