Arsenal’s Injury Problems Mount, Duo Doubtful For Newcastle Game

Arsenal could be down to the bare bones in defence this weekend with Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal both doubtful to face Newcastle on Saturday.
Kos has missed the last two games against Stoke and Galatasaray and while some fans had hoped Arsene Wenger was just resting him, it appears his Achilles problem has been giving him grief again.
The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal hope the rest will clear up the latest issue, but as it stands the Frenchman is a real doubt to take on the Magpies at the Emirates on Saturday evening.
Arsene will give the 29-year-old until the last minute to prove his fitness but we may be facing up to the very real possibility of being without our best centre-back for the third consecutive game.
In true Arsenal style, Nacho Monreal – the man who deputised while Kos was out last month – is also a major doubt with the Mirror claiming that the Spaniard is still feeling the effects of a knee injury that’s seen him miss the last two games.
If Nacho is ruled out along with Koscielny, then we’ll go into the Newcastle game with Per Mertesacker as our only recognised centre-back as Calum Chambers will serve a one-match ban following his dismissal against Stoke.
Obviously this would be a disaster as the Newcastle game is a big match for us after last weekends defeat, and we desperately need a win to get back on track.
So let’s pray that one of Kos or Monreal will be passed fit, otherwise we’ll have to call upon one of the youngsters to fill in.
