Wenger On Reported Interest In Isco, Perrin, Cech, Paulista & Bielik
Arsenal boss Arsenal Wenger has responded to reports linking him with a number of players including Petr Cech, Isco and Loic Perrin.
Speculation this week linked us with a move for Chelsea’s out-of-favour goalkeeper Petr Cech with Arsene supposedly on the look-out for a new No.1 to replace Wojceich Szczesny following the Pole’s poor display at Southampton.
However, when quizzed about these reports today, the boss has categorically ruled out making a move for the Czech international after claiming he’s content with his current options between the sticks.
The papers have been strongly linking us with a move for Saint-Etienne centre-back Loic Perrin this past week while Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista has also emerged as a possible target.
But once again, Arsene appears to have ruled out making a move for the duo after saying we’re ‘not on the case’ for either player.
One rumour that made me laugh in recent days was the Daily Star’s report that suggested we were lining-up a £64m bid for Real Madrid attacker Isco. However, unsurprisingly, Arsene has ruled that one out as well, and says he won’t be bringing in any more attackers this month.
One player that could be on his way to Arsenal though, is Polish youngster Krystian Bielik. We’ve been in negotiations with Legia Warsaw for the 17-year-old for a while and are believed to have had a £1.6m bid rejected.
When asked about his interest, Arsene admitted he’s a player we’re following but says a deal isn’t close.
This is what Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Loic Perrin…
No, we are not on the case.
on Gabriel Paulista…
We are not on the case, we keep all that as quiet as possible.
on Krystian Bielik…
He is a young boy that we follow, yes. You see I gave you some information! We are not very close at the moment [to an agreement].
on Petr Cech rumours…
No, Petr Cech is at Chelsea. We have three goalkeepers who for me are top class and there is a big competition going on. I have no doubt we have the needed quality.
on Isco…
No, we are not on the case. We have plenty of creative players. We are more short on the defensive side of our game, not on the offensive side. We have plenty of offensive players. We just spoke about Podolski who just went out, we spoke about Sanogo going out because we have so many offensive players that they don’t get a chance to play. So we won’t buy someone else in the attack.
So no real surprises but it’s also worth remembering that Arsene often plays his cards close to his chest and rarely gives too much away to the media about his transfer business.
I’m still not expecting too much this month. I do think we’ll bring in an experienced defender and we’ll probably sign Bielik too, but I think we’re going to have to wait until the summer before a top class holding midfielder arrives.
