‘If I Go To Arsenal It Will Be Excellent. My Agent Is In Talks’

Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista claims his agent is in talks over a potential move to Arsenal and says it would be ‘excellent’ if a deal could be agreed.

We’re almost certain to bring in another centre-back before the transfer window closes with Arsene Wenger saying over the weekend it would be ‘too risky’ for him not to strengthen his options after Debuchy’s injury.

Countless names have been touted as targets in recent weeks with Villarreal’s Gabriel Paulista emerging as a realistic option according to speculation last week.

It appears we’ve stepped up our interest in the Brazilian as he’s now been quoted as telling reporters that his agent is in talks about a potential move and he thinks it would be “excellent” if he ends up making the switch to North London:

“The subject is being discussed by my agent and the club.”

“If I go to Arsenal it will be excellent. But if it’s not finalised then I am relaxed. I am focused on my work here.”  Paulista is quoted as saying by the Mirror

The Mirror claim that Arsenal have tabled a £5m plus add ons offer to Villarreal for Paulista’s services but that offer is highly unlikely to be accepted.

The paper suggests that we may include Joel Campbell on loan to try and sweeten the deal, but even if that was accepted, we’d still have a tough time getting a work permit as he’s not capped for Brazil yet and doesn’t hold an EU passport.

The 24-year-old could be a decent buy as he’s been superb at the back for Villarreal this season and has been a key figure in their long unbeaten run in the league – which stretches back to early November.

He’s also clearly up for the move but the fee and work permit issues may rule out any potential deal taking place….
