Man Utd Open Talks Over Reus, But He Wants Arsenal Move – Reports

The race for Marco Reus is going to be one of the stories of the summer and it looks like Arsenal are going to be in the thick of it.

With a £20m buy-out clause kicking in at the end of the season, understandably there is plenty of interest in his signature with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich among those strongly linked.

The Express claims that United have already opened talks with Borussia Dortmund to make it clear they are willing to match the attackers buy-out clause this summer and Louis van Gaal hopes his early move will prove decisive in landing the 25-year-old.

However, they might have a fight on their hands as reports last week suggested that Reus has already made his mind up that he wants to join Arsenal to link-up with Arsene Wenger.

Many assumed Reus would follow Lewandowski and Gotze to Bayern Munich but speculation from Germany recently claimed that Pep Guardiola had withdrawn his interest, so at least one big player could be out the running.

Who knows how much truth there is behind any of these reports, but it would be extremely exciting if Reus did want to come to the Emirates as he’s one of the best attackers in Europe right now.

47 goals in 101 games since joining Dortmund in 2012 is nothing to be sniffed at, that’s for sure.

Lukas Podolski is almost certain to leave the club on a permanent deal in the summer so could Reus be his replacement? It would be a huge upgrade, but as silly as it sounds, where would he fit in?

We’re already well stocked with attackers. Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott, Cazorla, Welbeck and Oxlade-Chamberlain can all play in the position that Reus would fill, so he would be something of a luxury signing if we did manage to somehow land him this summer.

There were rumours that we had a deal in place to sign Reus before he got injured just before the World Cup, and Wenger has openly admitted his admiration in the past, so I’m sure we will be in the running if he decides to leave Dortmund at the end of the season.

But do we need him enough to really push the boat out and do what’s necessary to bring him to the Emirates? I’m not convinced, but we’ll have to see what happens over the coming months….
