Wenger Offers Hope Sanchez Could Still Play Against Tottenham
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has offered a glimmer of hope that Alexis Sanchez could yet play some part against Tottenham tomorrow.
The boss ruled Sanchez out of the game in his team news update on Thursday, saying the Chilean international was still suffering the effects of a hamstring problem that saw him miss last weeks win over Aston Villa.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning, Arsene has revealed that Alexis wants to train today in order to prove his fitness and make the trip to White Hart Lane.
Wenger still feels Sanchez is just ‘short’, but said he’d make a final decision after today’s training session.
I’m sure the club won’t take any unnecessary risks, so it still remains highly unlikely that Sanchez will start tomorrow, but if he trains without issue today, you never know, the boss might put him on the bench and bring him on if we need a goal in the second half.
Alexis must be a nightmare to deal with. The medical team will rely on him telling them when he feels pain or discomfort but you could imagine the player telling them he’s fine even if he’s torn a hamstring or his leg was snapped in half. He just loves to play football so much.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t back-fire one of these days and lead to him picking up a serious injury.
Here’s what Arsene has been telling reporters this morning:
Wenger on Sanchez: "He feels he can defy the medical people because he is so keen to play. I don't know if he can. I will see today." #AFC

At Colney. "Welbeck is back, Jack Wilshere will join in training next week. Sanchez is out but he wants to have a go (in training) today."
